Intumescent and fire protection coatings are used to protect the steel structure of a building in the event of a fire. In excessive temperatures during a fire, steel can lose its load-bearing capacity and become unstable, and therefore unsafe.

Intumescent coatings are applied to primed steel columns, angles, channels, beams and hollow sections. During a fire, a chemical reaction will occur, causing the intumescent coating to expand and form an insulating layer around the steel that serves to slow the temperature rise of the steel. The aim of intumescent coatings is to prevent the steel from reaching a critical temperature that will cause it to become unstable.

The process of applying intumescent paint is highly involved and should only be conducted by experienced professionals such as the All Districts Coating team, who are highly trained and qualified. The paint must be sprayed in an even consistency and to a certain thickness, to comply with regulations.

The team at All Districts Coating will skilfully apply fire protection coatings so that they give you a good fire rating and a pleasing aesthetic. We are able to tint intumescent coatings to your desired colour, or paint over the surface with conventional paint.
